Real Madrid's Fabio Coentrao Banned For Abusive Language

Real Madrid's Fabio Coentrao will miss Wednesday evening's Spanish Supercopa second leg after Spanish football's competition committee handed him a four-game ban for insulting referee Perez Lasa during Madrid's 2-1 defeat at Getafe last Sunday.

Coentrao, who was an unused substitute for that game, has been found guilty of calling Perez Lasa a 'son of a bitch' (hijo de puta), from this place on the bench. Jose Mourinho said after the game that no Madrid player or coach had heard those words being used.

Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova was also disciplined for the protest which saw him red carded during their 2-1 win at Osasuna, also on Sunday. As his offence was judged less serious the ban is two games, to be served in Barca's next two La Liga matches against Valencia and Getafe.

This leaves Vilanova free to take charge of his side as they defend a 3-2 first leg advantage against Madrid at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. Barcelona are, however, expected to appeal the decision.
