Liverpool To Sell Jay Spearing To Bolton To Raise Money

Liverpool are trying to sell Jay Spearing to Bolton to raise money for Brendan Rodgers' rebuilding.

Wanderers had hoped to take the midfielder on loan for the season but Liverpool want £3 million for the 23-year-old.

While Spearing played 25 games last season and started the FA Cup final defeat to Chelsea, he did not even make the bench for Sunday's 2-2 draw with Manchester City.

After completing the loan signing of Nuri Sahin, Rodgers has seven central midfielders ahead of Spearing in the queue for places - the Turk, Steven Gerrard, Joe Allen, Lucas Leiva, Jonjo Shelvey, Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam.

Spearing has made 55 appearances for Liverpool, three of them this season, after graduating from the club's academy.

Bolton have been looking for a holding midfielder with Nigel Reo-Coker and Sean Davis leaving the club in the summer and Fabrice Muamba forced to retire.
