Top ten private jets owned by wealthy Nigerians: how much they cost

I culled this report from Encomium magazine. Quite revealing. See it below...
More exciting revelations have emerged that the penchant for private jets acquisition has cost wealthy Nigerians over N1 trillion in five years. The luxury trend actually rose by 650% between 2007 and 2012, this has increased the rate of private jet acquisition from 20 in 2007 to over 150 in 2012 which has placed Nigeria  and china as the fastest growing private jets markets in the world.

What’s The Big Deal About Sex, Love, Romance?

Sex, love and romance are a big deal. Such a big deal, in fact, that there’s a whole industry built and focused on them.

No matter where you are, who you are, who you love, and how you love, there’s a day, a month, a concept, a parade, a book, or even a sub-culture that is tailored just for you; waiting and lurking to grab you in its clutches and sink its tenterhooks around your neck until you give in.

Now, I realize that may sound sceptical, but as they say; it is what it is.

Bringing this “culture” home to Nigeria is a whole other kettle of fish. As with pretty much everything else in our beloved motherland, ‘e get k-leg.’

I don’t know if it’s just me, but I find that in my beloved Naija, the idea of romance can be far removed from what we are told it should be by the endless romance movies (be they from Hollywood or Bollywood), sappy music, and other messages that filter in through a variety of ways.

Romance in Naija might not be fresh red roses “just because” o; it may be your lady love surprising you with freshly pounded yam and your favorite soup after a rough day at work, or your partner putting oil in your car so your engine doesn’t knock while you’re driving to and fro Third Mainland Bridge. You might have to forget about dimmed lights and soft music playing as you make sweet love, because quite frankly, young lovers often have to settle for a quickie before the parents come home.

Nevertheless, I think we should talk about it. Let’s talk about the differences, the similarities, and the peculiarities of love, sex and romance in our corner of the world.

Keshi Invites ‘Mammoth Crowd’ for 5-Day Training

Super Eagles boss, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi, going by his approach, will not start more than seven foreign-based players in the Nations Cup tie against Liberia in Calabar October 13.
Yet, he has invited 15 of them for the match, a development that will surely attract criticisms and concern from followers of the Eagles.

Super Eagles Head Coach, Stephen Keshi with Home Based Super Eagles at a News Conference at the Eagles’ Camp in Abuja Is he losing focus? He has as well listed 23 home-based players for the crunch October tie against the Lone Star of Liberia. Bogus camping does not make for concentration. Yet, Keshi is going for it. Some panicky measure?
The first leg of the final qualifier in Monrovia, ended 2-2, and Nigeria needs a win in this return leg scheduled for the South South city of Calabar to book a place in the tournament proper scheduled for next January in South Africa...
Expectedly the foreign based are led by skipper Joseph Yobo, but Chelsea’s John Obi Mikel returns, same for Inter’s Joel Obi, while former Golden Eaglets star, Ogenyi Onazi of Lazio in the Italian Serie A makes a debut for the national team.
The home-based as usual is led by Warri Wolves keeper, Chigozie Agbim, his team mate Azubuike Egwueke is included, while regulars like Godfrey Oboabona and Juwon Oshaniwa also make the cut.
The home-based players are expected in camp by Sunday, September 30th, at the Bolton White Hotel in Abuja, while their foreign based counterparts will join the team by October 8 in Calabar unfailingly.
“We hope to have at least five training sessions together and that should be enough for the team to do well against Liberia”, Eagles media officer, Ben Alaiya quotes Head Coach, Stephen Keshi as saying.

Jose Mourinho Could Be Coach Until In His 70s

photo
Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho says that he is not fully satisfied yet with his medals haul and hopes to remain in football for many more years.

Mourinho explained that despite winning league titles in Portugal, England, Italy and Spain, and two Champions League trophies with different clubs, his coaching career was still in its early phases.

"What I did was amazing, but at the same time I look forward and I feel myself better than ever, stronger than ever," Mourinho told Sky Sports. "I am still at the beginning of my professional life."

The former Porto, Chelsea and Internazionale coach, who will turn 50 next January, said that he could see himself emulating current Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson and remaining in football into his 70s.

"I understand perfectly why Sir Alex is still in the job and I think I will be the same," Mourinho said. "I love football so much, I love coaching so much. I am really very, very young. Even when I become 50, I have a lot in front of me."

The 'Only One' said that such a landmark could affect other people, but he will keep looking forward to life's next challenges.

"Fifty is a number with a certain impact," he said. "It is a number I believe sometimes has a psychologically negative impact on many people because they realise the world moves very, very fast and our lives are very, very short. It is a number that makes me think and look back, but also look forward too."

Alex Song: I Joined Barcelona To Win Trophies

photo
Alex Song has said he joined Barcelona from Arsenal in order to win trophies, adding that he had no fears about facing Cristiano Ronaldo in next month's clasico.

Song, 25, who spent seven seasons at Arsenal without picking up any medals before signing for Barca for €19 million in August, told Catalan daily Mundo Deportivo he had left the Gunners because he wanted silverware. "I am hungry," he said. "I have never won anything. I have come here to play a lot of games and win everything."

Once he was made aware of Barcelona's interest last summer, he said he had immediately decided to go there. "In July, Barca spoke with Arsenal and Arsene Wenger came to tell me about it," he explained.

"It was difficult to convince him and also to say goodbye, as he helped me and my family a lot when I arrived at Arsenal aged 17. But when you love Barca, you cannot say no. A train like this only passes once in a lifetime and you must catch it."

The Cameroon international, who has already been given the nickname Songito by his former Gunners team-mate Cesc Fabregas, played at centre-back in last Saturday's 2-0 La Liga win over Granada at the Camp Nou, despite being seen as a midfielder during his time in the Premier League.

With regular Barca centre-backs Carles Puyol and Gerard Pique injured, it looks likely that he will play in defence against Real Madrid in the season's first La Liga clasico on October 7.

Song said playing in defence was nothing new for him, adding: "I play wherever the coach asks me. I have played there many times [for Arsenal] when there were injuries, and I have finished games in defence having started in midfield."

Although playing in defence against Madrid would mean having to handle Ronaldo, Song said he had enough experience for that job. "Of course we are stronger with Pique and Puyol at centre-back, but I am ready and have already played against Cristiano in the Premier League," he said.

"I have not just begun playing - I am not 17 or 18 years old. I have played over 200 games for Arsenal, and have nothing to worry about. I will not think about stopping Cristiano if it happens."

Since arriving in Catalonia, Song has often been compared to fellow midfielder Yaya Toure, who played centre-back in the 2009 Champions League final for Barcelona before leaving for Manchester City in 2010.

Song said he preferred to make his own name than being compared to others. "I cannot compare myself to him," he said. "He is a great player and I have a lot of respect for him. But I have not come here to be the new Toure, but to be myself."

Meanwhile, Barca president Sandro Rosell said the club would do everything in its power to ensure a contract extension is agreed with Xavi. Rosell said: "We will do everything we possibly can and I think he also wants to finish his career here. He is a role model, a legend."

Why Fuel Scarcity Persists – NNPC Tells Senate

photo
The Group Managing Director of National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Mr. Andrew Yakubu Tuesday told the Senate that recent fuel scarcity experienced by Nigerians was as a result of the fire incident which damaged oil pipelines in Arepo, Ogun state.
Yakubu who was represented  by the Executive Director of NNPC on Public Services, Peter Madu when he appeared before the Senator Magnus Abe led Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources, Downstream also told the Senators that the problem was also attributable to hoodlums who disrupted repair works at the incident and affected flow of the product.
The Senate following the fuel scarcity across the country, summoned the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Alison-Madueke, GMD, NNPC, Executive Secretary, Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency, PPPRA, Mr. Reginald Stanley and other stakeholders in the sector to appear before the Committee why the country must experience such problem now.
Speaking further, Madu who noted that attack on the crew of NNPC  who went to effect repairs was also responsible for the shortage, said, "three of our men including an engineer were abducted and yet to be found and this was aside three currently receiving treatment”.
According to him, the NNPC had to put in place alternative arrangements to use tankers, but however lamented many of the tankers were held up in the Lokoja flooding, adding, ‘’it would take longer turn around for the tankers to get to their destinations and this has been responsible for the current hiccups noticed last week.’’
He however assured Nigerians that the product was now to serve the country, adding, "we have beefed up our depots in Suleja, Minna, Jos, Gusau and Kano. Kaduna refinery has pumped 4 million litres to ease supply”.
On proposed strike by NUPENG and PENGASAN, Madu disclosed that the NNPC was yet to be notified on the development.
After the submission, Chairman of the Committee, Senator Magnus Abe, who commiserated with the NNPC over the abduction of its three staff, however urged the Inspector General of Police to arrest the perpetrators of Arepo vandalisation of the pipelines, adding, “the senate is concerned about the preservation of the country’s pipelines and nobody should be allowed to get away with such criminal acts. The IG must bring to book all those responsible for disrupting the repairs of the pipelines in Arepo”.
Following the absence of the Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Allison-Madueke, Senator Abe however agreed that the Senate would bend its rules, just as he said that the Minister and other will appear on Friday next week.
