Spanish Police Clash With Manchester City Fans

Police in Spain were reported to have clashed with Manchester City fans prior to last night's Champions League game at the Bernabeu.

Writing on Twitter, Natalie Pike, a matchday presenter at the Etihad Stadium who was attending the match as a fan, said police had charged into a crowd of around 100 City fans outside a bar in the Spanish capital.

Tweeting about the incident, which happened an hour before kick-off, she wrote: "Just watched Spanish police batter City fans. A big group of about 100 of us outside a bar opposite the stadium and they tore in, batons up.

"No one [was] doing any harm at all. Very scary stuff. So out of order. Been going to football 20 years, never seen anything like it. On my life, City fans doing nothing but singing and having fun. Women, kids, teenagers, all treated like scum. So out of order. Am so upset.

"The bar was so busy, people were standing on the street outside. All innocent and friendly. No warning, no one asking us to move. The police just got their batons out and moved people along by smacking them."

City have not commented on the reported clash. In a dramatic game, the Premier League champions were beaten 3-2 by their Spanish counterparts having led 2-1 with five minutes remaining.
